Sunrise on the Colossi in Numenor by KipRasmussen Sunrise on the Colossi in Numenor by KipRasmussen
Numenor haunts me. The civilization that defeated Sauron twice, giving rise to Arnor and Gondor, whose inhabitants lived far beyond others of their race. The Numenoreans lived on their island for three millenia and I figure they had to have been practicing colossi like the Argonauth for a long time. Here is a bay somewhere in Numenor during the morning of their glory.

Hi Kip! I find it interesting that Numenor haunts you! For me, Numenor is almost more mysterious than the Teleri or Noldor. You may be interested in an audiobook I have on YouTube, I read the entire Akallabeth concerning Numenor's origins :)

This is pretty great art. I just discovered your page, and I've been browsing through your stuff. You do excellent work and capture the spirit of Tolkien very well. Thank you for giving form to our favorite fairytales!

You're welcome. Thank you for such nice feedback. The best thing that can be said for me is that Tolkien would have approved. Thanks so much.

Definitely possible and suitable for Numenor during the days of the imperial Kings.

It's something I love to think about. How would this monumental civilization put their world together? Thanks for taking the time to comment.

This is magnificent! I thought "Argonath" when I first saw the thumbnail, but yes, it makes perfect sense for it to be Numenor, which was a great civilization. I love how everything looks, the colours, sky, lighting, everything.

You know I'd never thought of it before, but it makes sense that there would be other "Colossi" before the building of the Argonath. Not only at Numenor, but perhaps at other Numenoraen colonies throughout Middle-Earth such as Umbar. Great artwork, beautiful and thought provoking.

Thanks for your wonderful comment. In reality, I just wanted to paint monumental statues and was impressed that even Sauron was astounded at the sight of Numenor. I thought, "Now what could astound Sauron?"

Wow, this is really impressive!
And it certainly makes sense that Argonath was nothing compared to what Númenoreans had been building.

Absolutely stunning! I love the way you've reflected the light onto both the stone and the water. It really makes the piece come to life! And the scale really makes it feel larger than life, certainly something one would find in Middle Earth.
